Event: Cish Cash goes Baile Funk!

'Cish Cash goes Baile Funk!' is the 7th episode of our own concept, Cish Cash. It started off early 2007 at club Suite 16 and got noticed by Ghent's infamous Culture Club. This time the upper room)is Ultravid's playground and, by the looks of the guest-dj, that playground will be a lot of fun! Daniel Haaksman, the European Don of Baile Funk and boss of Man Recordings is headlining on the 3rd of May.
He'll deliver a blend of authentic and nu-baile funk, fidget and wonky house. Baile Funk (or Carioca Funk) has its roots in the Brazilian Favela's and the sound has spread around the globe with names like Bonde Do Role, M.I.A., MC Gringo, CSS, Dj Sandrihno,... Baile Funk basically consists of a typical beat, cheap (but irresistable) sampled vocals, riffs and horns and percussion like a riot gun on full automatic. This saturday will be a Culture Club Resident Night with a Cish Cash treat, featuring Ultravid, Cedric Inglesos and special guest Daniel Haaksman (Man Rec., Berlin). Offering you the new baile vibe. His discogs page quite rightfully names Michael as one of the UK’s most popular producers having remixed everyone from Ian Van Dahl to Sonique to Lio and Energy 52, Michael has scored two chart hits under his Warrior guise, once with his self titled track which hit No.19 and secondly with Voodoo which also make an impact into the UK Top 40 in 2000.

Hi.

I'd like to apologise if there are any problems accessing the blog over the next week or so, as we've just changed our hosting service. Many thanks to our previous webmaster who has had to put up with us and our bandwidth drain for over a year for FREE!!

The site has now been transferred over, along with 99% of the content to our own private hosting. There may be a few tweaks here and there, but generally things will be as normal (hopefully!), and the messageboard will be back one way or another very soon.

Mr. Oizo remixes a little bit of Jamie Lidell

Attending the Ed Banger Label Night in Leuven (Belgium) last weekend, I witnessed probably one of the first public playbacks of Mr. Oizo's latest remix job. This time for one of my top five artists, electronic funkster Jamie Lidell and his upcoming single Little bit of feel good (due for release April 14th). Oizo's signature stabs-and-tight-beat sound is instantly recognizable, if not becoming a bit predictable, but Lidell's vocals manage to keep the remix interesting. Here's a snippet:

I know many of our readers are not averse to some D-I-Y production, so I'd like to invite you all to remix "Little bit of feel good" yourselves shortly. Head over to this web page on the first of March for the samples. Not sure if the contest will be open to people outside of France, but that shouldn't stop you from creating a blaring stormer with the song's bits and pieces.

By the way, Jamie Lidell's next full album, Jim, will be released April 28th and I've heard from insiders it's catchy as hell. A certain robot friend of ours is a fan as well, as you can see at the end of this video.

UPDATE: As ultravid correctly commented, the remix has been added to Oizo's MySpace player.

A little self-promo doesn't hurt, especially when it's for a good cause. See, together with Belgian national radio station Studio Brussel, we are throwing a huge party on Wednesday the 19th in my hometown (and practically in my back yard) for Music for Life, a yearly charity event which is also known in The Netherlands as Serious Request.

This year's campaign focuses on water. Clean water! It's of life value, but for over a billion people across the world it's simply not granted! Annually about 4 million die due to lack of clean water. Each day 4000 kids die before they reach the age of 5 to diseases due to lack of clean water. The collected funds will be used by the international Red Cross to construct waterpumps and sewerage systems, provide in materials to clean the water, protect wells against pollution and make sanitary fittings accessible. The organisation also gives education on hygiene and health issues. Due to these actions lives are saved.

Back to the party. The headliner is obviously Discobar Galaxie, a crazy trio that hosts its own stage on the Rock Werchter festival every year and one of them member of Shameboy. Alongside them, DJ Wout, the brains behind dance-act Sylver and also a few PTNOTR posters and regulars (like Geht's Noch?, Laston & Geo and some guy called Fistfunk together with buddy Shiseido). The main party starts at 3:30 PM at the Zimmerplein in Lier (Antwerp) and ends at 10:00 PM .

Chances are small any of our readers (or even other co-bloggers) will be able to make it, but if you're from the area please stop by and donate some dirty cash for clean water!
