Sub That Shit!
Following ‘2 Many Dj’s’ and ‘The Glimmers’, Starski & Tonic were the third resident-duo of Belgium’s finest, Ghent-based, club: the infamous Culture Club. They started their Culture Club-residency in 2002; one year later they were offered a new residency at Belgium’s second biggest eclectic/electro-ish club: Dirty Dancing in Brussels. During that same year ‘5voor12’ (the guys behind the “10 days off…”-festival) opened their club in Antwerp: Petrol. Again Starski & Tonic were asked to play on a regular basis in Antwerp’s biggest club.
Due to these 3 residencies Starski & Tonic are playing all over Belgium and already played in countries like France, England, Germany, Poland, Holland and Scotland. The basis of their success is that Starski & Tonic are always pushing their musical limits! Combine that with their ‘no-nonsense’ attitude and you won’t be surprised that they’ve already established a very good reputation in the eclectic/electro-scene of today. This has even led to a prestigious gig at London’s finest: FABRIC (july 2006); which confirms once more that these lads got their fingers on the boogie button!
At the end of 2005 Starski & Tonic teamed up with fellow townsman and multi-instrumentalist Papillon (Bolchi, Foxylane) to start a new project called “The Subs”: making twisted dirty, funky music for open-minded people is what they have in mind! Papillon has been making music for as long as he can remember. Keyboards, programming & songwriting are his main thing, but he's a bit of a multi-instrumentalist. He also plays & writes for "Foxylane", a dirty RaveRock band with Stefan Poplife and DJ Thang.

The Subs have already made a few tracks and remixes and their first release (“You make me spill”) was featured on the "Dirty Dancing Compilation vol.2" (march 2006) and had a lot of airplay on national radio in Belgium (Studio Brussels). After this unforeseen success The Subs signed a deal with record company N.E.W.S.: “You make me Spill” was picked up by Geoffroy’s label Suicide recordings and a few months later Dr. Lektroluv released “Substracktion” on his own label. In the meanwhile The Subs made remixes for bands and artists like Telex, Sharam Jay, Mason, The Lotterboys, Acid Jacks, Shameboy, Foxylane, Pacjam, Javelo,…And more Substrax will be released on Dr. Lektroluv recordings. Live, The Subs use a laptop, a few analogue synths and some crazyness behind the mic to get the crowd dancin'. Their debut was at 10 days off 2006. Lowlands, Pukkelpop, Dirty Dancing followed ... to be continued ...

I went to Five Years Culture Club, kind of an anniversary. Saw Tiga, The Glimmers, Martin Solveig and Maxim Lany there. A great party it was. The Subs are on my list this summer, don't know where and when but i'll see them for sure.
